Formula 10.0.6 – Pore Strips & Mask REVIEW

Well well well.

It’s been a been a minute…  Moving and a career change have sapped ALL my attention (and money).  But now that all the boxes are unpacked and the routines have been established, I got to go:

The change in humidity is doing a NUMBER on my skin and hair.  So in my latest ULTA haul, I went a little product crazy.

The recent return to sunscreen has left my skin feeling completely “gunked up” even after it has been washed.  So I was in the market for a new mask and some pore strips, since I’ve never used them.  I’ve heard a lot of people raving about the “Pores Be Pure” mask from Formula 10.0.6 (a branch of Bonne Bell – yeah, the one with all the crazy cool chapsticks from childhood!).   Lucky for me they had a box of pore strips with two trial packets of their much raved about mask for $5.99.  Score one for me!

I started with a clean face, washed with Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Wash – a long time favorite.  Then applied the Down to the Pores Blackhead Banishing Pore Strips with Tea Tree Oil & Kaolin.  I’ll admit, the Tea Tree Oil smell was quite intense!  Of course it wore off after a few minutes.  I left the strip on for 15 minutes and it was kind of a battle to get it off.  I should have moistened it a little but I did get it off and to my joy, it really did pull gunk out of my pores!

I then rinsed my face with warm water to wash away any residue from the strip since it was so stiff to remove.

Next, I followed up with an application of the Pores Be Pure Skin-Clarifying Mud Mask with Strawberry + Yarrow.  The following is just my opinion of the mask:

–          Very easy to apply (I used my fingers, but probably should have used a brush)

–          HOLY INITIAL BURNING SENSATION, BATMAN!!!  This mask gave me a burning sensation I did NOT expect, but it only lasted about 2 minutes then subsided.  Just WHOA at first…

–          I love the smell!  Very fresh & fruity!!

–          You only need a thin layer.

–          Washes away with warm water with just a little bit of scrubbing.

–          My skin looked very fresh and felt so clean afterwards!

A word of warning for anyone with skin that easily dries out… Definitely follow up with a heavy moisturizer.  This mask is meant for oily skin, and it WILL suck the oil out so be sure to follow up so you don’t strip your skin and send it into oil production overdrive.  Personally, I’ll only be able to use these products once a week to avoid over-drying my skin, even though it’s very oily with all this humidity.  I prefer my skin to be balanced, not in a cycle of “dry – SUPER OILY – kinda dry – maybe oily – DRY’

For $5.99, I’m really impressed!  Ulta had the line on sale Buy one, Get one 50% off and of course you can apply the store coupons/credits to the purchase.

Has anyone else used these two products or have any Spa Sunday recommendations???

Sunscreen & summer days to all…

Review: Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Natural Nude Eye Shadow & Liner

So when I saw this line of Physicians Formula nude eye shadow palettes on the Nouveau Cheap blog I was super excited to try them! She did a great comparison of them to the Urban Decay Naked shadows and being the cheapskate that I am, decided I would buy these instead of splurging on the real things.

There are four different shade packs to choose from, but I settled on the Natural Nude Eyes palette:

Other palettes are: Classic Nude Eyes, Warm Nude Eyes, Smokey Nude Eyes.

Josie Maran Argan Skin Care

If we are being honest, I’ll have to admit that I’m a little more than partial to this line of skin care.

Jaclyn Hill & Nicole Guerriero got me hooked when they started talking about using the 100% Argan Oil (regular & light versions) as part of their night time skin care routines.

As a combo-prone-to-oily skin girl, I said there was no way I was putting an OIL on my face, on purpose. But then I realized, my skin went into to oil production hyperdrive when it was dry. So putting an oil directly on my skin, would, in essence, trick my skin into believing it already had what it needed and therefore not produce more of the dreaded oil that plagued me day in and day out.

The result? Perfection. Over time my skin balanced out from being full on oil rig to being dewy, clear, and soft. No more dry patches, no more oil slicks throughout the day, no more makeup breaking up as the hours dragged on.

And with that, Ms. Josie Maran became my skin care BFF.

My shopping downfall, aka HauteLook, featured Ms. Josie Maran and her products in April and it was toot, toot all aboard THATtrain to WonderTown!

Boscia cleanser & mask – Reviews

After all the torture I’ve put my skin through — laying out, tanning beds, harsh cleansers, harsher makeup products, life in general… I’ve wised up FINALLY and realized I need to be using products that HELP my skin.  Products which, if possible, are gentle, cleansing, and as natural as possible.

Enter:  BOSCIA

  • First up on the review block — Boscia MakeUp-Breakup Cleansing Oil

I heard about their MakeUp-Breakup Cleansing Oil on YouTube and I was admittedly skeptical.  However, after 2 months of use, my skin has never been better and more healthy!

It seems counter-intuitive to use an oil to keep an oily/dirty face.  But hear me out.  When you use an oil on your skin, you are essentially tricking it so that it doesn’t start over producing oil to keep itself hydrated.  The oil in this cleanser breaks down the makeup and grime on your skin, washes it away with warm water, and doesn’t do an ounce of stripping to the skin.  The result?  Clean, fresh, SOFT skin that is ready for anything!

I paid $28.00 for my bottle of Boscia’s MakeUp-Breakup Cleansing Oil at Sephora.  It comes as a pump and a tiny little plastic tube/cap thing which makes it great for traveling and not pumping out all over my bag!  (SO HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS.)  I apply one to two pumps into my dry hands, apply it to my makeup covered dry face, and massage it in with circular motions until my face is one mushy messy looking wreck.  Then I rinse it all away with warm water and pat my face dry with a clean white towel.  Miraculously, there’s never a trace of makeup on my white towel.  My skin is soft, clean, and moisturized!

LOVE THIS STUFF!  Everyone needs it, regardless of skin type.  It’s truly amazing.  Can’t wait to try their Tsubaki Cleansing Gel next…

  • Next up on the review block — Boscia Bright White Mask

I actually tried this out as a small sample pack from Sephora when I made an online order.  After ONE use, I was hooked.

Maybe it was the fact that it peeled off, maybe it was the results.  Either way, I was in love.

While it’s pretty pricey at $38.00, it does last quite a while and is only recommended for use once or twice a week.  Myself, I only use it once a week.  And while the removal isn’t so entirely simple as “just peeling it off” (it can take some rubbing and washing to get it all off), my skin is plump, soft, glowing from the inside out!

The product is recommended to be applied in a thin layer; I feel like I apply it a little thick so I can get it off more easily.  For days after I use this mask, my skin is noticeably healthier and more vibrant.

Again, I love this mask.  I HIGHLY recommend it!  I’m looking forward to trying the Luminizing Black Mask.

Happy, healthy skin & spa days all around…

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara – Review

And the saga continues (gasp) — Oily Eyes.  Again, my horror.  Due to having deep set eyes and oily skin, I’ve never been able to wear liner or mascara on the bottom lashes without looking like I’m ready for Halloween or a goth concert by noon.

Super cute.

However, I decided to give this little tiny baby a try.  The cuteness… I die!  SO adorable.

Physician’s Formula 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner & Serum ~ Review

I am ALWAYS on the prowl for eye makeup that will LAST on my eyes.  I will admit that my eyes are not sensitive and have endured a lot of tugging and pulling and rubbing… BEFORE I learned all of the above will give me wrinkles.

And yes, I’ve now got the wrinkles to prove it.

In truth, my real issue is that I have (gasp)Oily Eyelids.  OH, the HORROR.  My eye makeup – shadow, liner, mascara – all look great when I leave my house everyday (ok, I’m biased.  “Great” is a relative term.)  But within three hours, my shadow fades, my mascara makes me look like a coon, and my liner is literally running off my eyes in search of a better home.

I have found some AMAZING products for primer and mascara that but the kibosh on the aforementioned issues.  You can find them here.

However, the liner and I have been at odds for going on years now.

Sure, I LOVED the MAC Liquidlast liner… but it gets so thick and difficult after a short while and let’s be honest, I’m not made of money.  BUT, it was the ONLY stuff that stayed on my eyelids (and waterline).

Until I found this little baby and tried it out on a whim simply because I got it for FREE at CVS (after coupons, Extra Care Bucks, etc).
