Hello everyone! First of all I want to start off by saying shame on me for ignoring the blog for the past few weeks – I’ve been busy with life/work/traveling/Tone It Up-ing, but that’s no excuse! I’m making a promise to myself to get back into blogging about the things I like and enjoy because it just makes me happy 🙂
Now that that’s out of the way…MAY FAVORITES!!
I have been waiting all month to share some of my favorites with you all. Some oldies but goodies made it onto the list this month and of course I already have some great things saved up for June favorites…but you’ll have to wait for those! Without further adieu, I present to you, my favorites for the month of May:
If we are being honest, I’ll have to admit that I’m a little more than partial to this line of skin care.
Jaclyn Hill & Nicole Guerriero got me hooked when they started talking about using the 100% Argan Oil (regular & light versions) as part of their night time skin care routines.
As a combo-prone-to-oily skin girl, I said there was no way I was putting an OIL on my face, on purpose. But then I realized, my skin went into to oil production hyperdrive when it was dry. So putting an oil directly on my skin, would, in essence, trick my skin into believing it already had what it needed and therefore not produce more of the dreaded oil that plagued me day in and day out.
The result? Perfection. Over time my skin balanced out from being full on oil rig to being dewy, clear, and soft. No more dry patches, no more oil slicks throughout the day, no more makeup breaking up as the hours dragged on.
And with that, Ms. Josie Maran became my skin care BFF.
My shopping downfall, aka HauteLook, featured Ms. Josie Maran and her products in April and it was toot, toot all aboard THATtrain to WonderTown!
I am ALWAYS on the prowl for eye makeup that will LAST on my eyes. I will admit that my eyes are not sensitive and have endured a lot of tugging and pulling and rubbing… BEFORE I learned all of the above will give me wrinkles.
And yes, I’ve now got the wrinkles to prove it.
In truth, my real issue is that I have (gasp) — Oily Eyelids. OH, the HORROR. My eye makeup – shadow, liner, mascara – all look great when I leave my house everyday (ok, I’m biased. “Great” is a relative term.) But within three hours, my shadow fades, my mascara makes me look like a coon, and my liner is literally running off my eyes in search of a better home.
I have found some AMAZING products for primer and mascara that but the kibosh on the aforementioned issues. You can find them here.
However, the liner and I have been at odds for going on years now.
Sure, I LOVED the MAC Liquidlast liner… but it gets so thick and difficult after a short while and let’s be honest, I’m not made of money. BUT, it was the ONLY stuff that stayed on my eyelids (and waterline).
Until I found this little baby and tried it out on a whim simply because I got it for FREE at CVS (after coupons, Extra Care Bucks, etc).
Physician’s Formula 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner & Serum
Well, I for one had no idea this collection existed. Apparently, the end of the school year sucked me into a black hole of paperwork and IEPs that left no room for new makeup, or even rumors of new pretties!
Wandering through Ulta aimlessly on Mother’s Day (since my momma lives 18 hours away — but I was on the phone with her), I found this BEAUTIFUL L’oreal nude pink and I fell in love.
The collection itself has 6 nude shades of varying tones, each endorsed by a beautiful female celebrity. Obviously, the shade I chose – “Doutzen Nude” – is endorsed by Dutch model/actress/Victoria’s Secret Angel, Doutzen Kroes.
I’ve worn it everyday since I’ve bought it so I thought I’d do a little review!
(Humor me, this is my first post like this.)
I DID IT!
I USED THEM ALL!
I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when I actually use an ENTIRE product from start to finish. Especially when that product is Chapstick since I do nothing but LOSE them (hence why none are pictured). So I will go through each product I used up, give a brief overview, and my recommendations (for whatever they are worth – haha).
From top left to top right:
I know “April Showers Bring May Flowers”… but so far these showers have just brought me a butt-ton of hail, tornadoes, and rain. Nevertheless, I’m here to discuss a few of my favorite things from the month of April!
Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis – while it can be super scientific to read (like majorly, thoroughly, DETAILED), it has some very valuable information, education, and tips about wheat, diet, and the effect of both on the body. And I’ve got to say, the Doc has some AT.TI.TUDE. Slow down, son. If $26 is too steep, check with your local library…
L’oreal Texture Perfecter Serum – I use this at night and in the morning after washing my face. I can honestly say I’ve seen a difference in the texture of my skin! I’m kind of shocked, I didn’t expect it to work this well haha and for $20, please don’t ever stop making this, L’oreal!
I’ll just come right out and say it. I was somehow magically blessed with beautiful, clear skin. I’m not sure how I managed to escape the wrath that my brothers and sisters endured (very oily, very acne-prone skin). I’ll attribute this miracle to my mother’s side of the family as most of them seem to have clear skin.
I experimented throughout high school and college with different face care products and what not, never really sticking to any routine. I would typically wash my face with my body wash – yes you heard right, my body wash. I didn’t exfoliate or regularly wear moisturizer, and I’m pretty sure I got my first zit in college and was probably traumatized. Now, I do have fair skin and I burn easily, especially on my nose, but I can also tan (and have the freckles to prove it). And throughout the years through all my product testing I’ve discovered that my face is pretty damn sensitive to just about anything I put on it. Which is why for so long I just didn’t go out of my way to find products that worked for me, because doing nothing seemed to be working.
As I get older, however, I am noticing that my skin isn’t the same anymore. It’s become more sensitive to things, I break out if I apply the wrong products, and I seem to be getting dryer and dryer by the minute. I started using Carmex Hydrating Lotion about 3 years ago as my every day facial moisturizer as it was the only thing that helped with my dry skin and didn’t irritate me. I’ve also noticed my skin becoming more and more uneven, which is why about 3 months ago I decided I needed to start wearing foundation for the first time in my life to even out my skin tone. In other words I opened a huge can of worms.
